Skutočný príbeh natočený podľa rovnomennej knihy Jamesa Bowena. James prežil niekoľko rokov ako bezdomovec, ktorý si na živobytie zarábal hraním na gitaru a spevom na ulici. Vďaka obetavej sociálnej pracovníčke Val sa mu podarilo získať sociálne bývanie, keď raz jeho byt navštívil nečakaný hosť, prítulný ryšavý kocúr. Najprv sa James pokúšal nájsť jeho pôvodného majiteľa, postupne ale k sebe obaja priľnuli a zostali spolu. Pre Jamesa sa Bob stal nenahraditeľným priateľom, niekým, o koho sa mohol starať, niekým, kto mu pomohol prekonať drogovú závislosť a existenčné problémy, a v neposlednom rade skvelým parťákom pri jeho hudobných vystúpeniach.
