Seriál Hlava 22, natočený na motivy věhlasného stejnojmenného románu Josepha Hellera, vypráví příběh prohnaného a bezkonkurenčního flákače Yossariana, pilota bombardéru amerického letectva za druhé světové války. Ten je celý bez sebe, protože se ho snaží zabít tisíce lidí, které nikdy neviděl. Jeho skutečným nepřítelem je ale vlastní armáda, neustále navyšující počet misí, které musí letci absolvovat, aby splnili povinnost. Pokud se však Yossarian jakkoli pokusí vyhnout svým nelogickým povinnostem, poruší absurdní, byrokraticky vykonstruovaný paragraf známý jako Hlava 22, který udává, že obavy o vlastní bezpečnost tváří v tvář skutečným a bezprostředním ohrožením jsou důkazem racionálního uvažování. Letecké povinnosti může být zbaven ten, kdo je uznán za psychicky narušeného a zároveň požádá o uvolnění. Žádost o uvolnění ale svědčí právě o psychickém zdraví a proto k němu dojít nemůže..
